Being a big fan of the two bands these gents come from (Powderfinger and Something For Kate), I had big expectations of this release. Both of them have incredible voices and I was interested to see how this collaboration would work. Listening through the album, vocals are equally shared and I think this is done well. However I'm going to be blunt in my review of the record. Hearing the single 'Disconnect', which was the first single off the album, I held hope. It is a very mature track with some great back to back swapping of vocals and quite simply a catchy tune. However as the whole album presents, for me there is not much to celebrate. I had an expectation that the music would be a mash of the two bands, but possibly off on a different direction so as not to rinse/repeat. However they have bought in an element that I don't like into every song. Looking up the details now, my suspicions are true in that the Synthesiser plays a reasonable part in their music. It's super clear to recognise on each track and I'm not sure it promotes the songs in the right way to be honest. I know it is only a single instrument, but to have it evident in each track, becomes a bit tiring after a while. It is a shame as I was looking for more. If they decide on a sophomore release, I'll be keen for a listen in the hope for there to be something I enjoy more than this release.
