James Marshall 'Jimi' Hendrix (born Johnny Allen Hendrix; November 27, 1942 - September 18, 1970) was an American guitarist, songwriter and singer. Although his mainstream career spanned only four years, he is widely regarded as the greatest and one of the most influential electric guitarists in the history of popular music, and one of the most celebrated musicians of the 20th century. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame describes him as "arguably the greatest instrumentalist in the history of rock music."

'Stone Free, A Tribute To Jimi Hendrix' is a various artists album tribute to Jimi Hendrix. The artists were drawn from many genres of popular music. Contributors include his classic rock contemporaries Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck, bluesman Buddy Guy, classical violinist Nigel Kennedy, alternative pop/rock bands Belly and Spin Doctors, hip hop artists P.M. Dawn, among others. Several artists recorded radically different interpretations, particularly, P. M. Dawn, The Cure, Nigel Kennedy and Pat Metheny. Some artists, on the other hand, recorded versions that were rather similar to the originals. The band M.A.C.C. is made up of Mike McCready (guitarist from Pearl Jam), Jeff Ament (bassist from Pearl Jam), Matt Cameron (drummer for Soundgarden and later for Pearl Jam), and Chris Cornell (singer of Soundgarden and later Audioslave). Eric Clapton's backing group on the title track includes the three original core members of Chic (Nile Rodgers, Bernard Edwards and Tony Thompson) and is the last recording on which all three played together.

'Hendrix In The West [Reissue (2011)]' is a reissue of the posthumous album by Jimi Hendrix. It was released as part of the Experience Hendrix's project to remaster Jimi's discography. Since the rights to the Royal Albert Hall performances that appear on the original L.P. were in dispute at the time of release, those tracks were substitutes by recordings from other shows. This is the second collection of Knight recordings released officially by the Hendrix family, and features two performances recording in late 1965 and early 1966. Labelled as live, these were likely not for an audience but instead played to an empty club to record for demo purposes.
