Iron Maiden are an English heavy metal band formed in East London in 1975 by bassist and primary songwriter Steve Harris. Although fluid in the early years of the band, the line-up for most of the band's history has consisted of Harris, lead vocalist Bruce Dickinson, guitarists Dave Murray, Adrian Smith and Janick Gers, and drummer Nicko McBrain. As pioneers of the new wave of British heavy metal movement, Iron Maiden released a series of UK and US Platinum and Gold albums, including 1980's debut album, 1981's 'Killers', and 1982's 'The Number Of The Beast'. In fact, 'The Number Of The Beast' is among the most popular heavy metal albums of all time, having sold almost 20 million copies worldwide and the band's first album with Bruce Dickinson, who replaced Paul Di'Anno as lead singer in 1981. The addition of Dickinson was a turning point in their career.

EMI releases the compilation 'Metal For Muthas', a landmark album in the rise of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal (NWoBHM). It features songs by Iron Maiden, Samson, and Angel Witch (amongst others).

'The Soundhouse Tapes' is the debut E.P. by Iron Maiden, and the first recordings by the band. It features three songs taken from the demo tape recorded at Spaceward Studios on 30/31 December 1978. Although major retail chains tried to order large quantities of the record, the band only distributed 5,000 copies, available by mail order alone, which sold out in just a few weeks. Because of this the E.P. is now a valuable collector's item, fetching high prices at online auctions.

'Metal For Muthas' is a sampling of various better-known artists of the NWOBHM, primarily known for having some of the earliest recorded material by heavy metal legends Iron Maiden. It reached No. 12 on the British L.P. charts and became the basis of a tour by the artists who contributed songs to the compilation. Iron Maiden, who headlined the tour, became largely intertwined with the history of Sanctuary Records (whose namesake was the similarly named Iron Maiden track on the compilation).

'Maiden Japan' is the second E.P. released by Iron Maiden. Made up of live versions of previously released songs, the title is a pun of Deep Purple's live album 'Made In Japan', but oddly the E.P. was released as 'Heavy Metal Army' in that country. It was the last item released with vocalist Paul Di'Anno before he was replaced by Bruce Dickinson.

Smith left the band during the pre-production phase, unhappy with the musical direction it was taking, and only having contributed to one song. Gers previously worked with singer Bruce Dickinson on his first solo album, 'Tattooed Millionaire'. Although it received generally mixed to negative reviews, the album peaked at No. 2 in the U.K. Albums Chart and contains the band's only U.K. Singles Chart No. 1, 'Bring Your Daughter... 'The X Factor' is the tenth studio album by Iron Maiden. It is the first of two albums by the band to include Blaze Bayley, formerly of Wolfsbane, as vocalist, replacing Bruce Dickinson who left the band following their previous tour to pursue a solo career. It also saw the departure of the band's longtime producer Martin Birch, who retired shortly after the release of their previous album, 'Fear Of The Dark' (1992). The album takes a darker tone than the band's first nine releases, due to the lyrics being based on personal issues surrounding Steve Harris at the time, who was in the midst of a divorce.

The game objective consists of following Iron Maiden's mascot, Eddie, through various levels depicting the band's past album covers. The accompanying CDs have the group's most popular songs, as selected by fans on the band's official website. The album was released alongside a tour of the same name, in which the band only played songs which were featured in the compilation. The tour itself was also notable for marking the return of former guitarist Adrian Smith and vocalist Bruce Dickinson, who had left the band in 1990 and 1993, respectively.
