'Antichrist Superstar' is the second studio album by Marilyn Manson. It was recorded at Nothing Studios in New Orleans and produced by the band's eponymous vocalist along with Sean Beavan, former Skinny Puppy producer Dave Ogilvie and Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. The recording of the album was marred by excessive drug use, which provoked a high level of antagonism between band members. Consequently, it was their last release to feature contributions from founding guitarist Daisy Berkowitz, who was acrimoniously fired partway through recording. A rock opera and a concept album, it was the first installment in a trilogy which included succeeding releases Mechanical Animals (1998) and Holy Wood (In The Shadow Of The Valley of Death) (2000). The central storyline on the album revolved around a supernatural being who seizes all power from humanity in order to initiate an apocalyptic end event; a populist demagogue who is driven solely by resentment, misanthropy, and despair, he uses his newfound position to destroy the world. The record can be seen as a social critique, utilizing this premise as a metaphor for the perceived fascist elements of the conservative political movement and the Christian right in North America.

Originally named Marilyn Manson & The Spooky Kids, they gained a local cult following in South Florida in the early 1990s with their theatrical live performances. Until 1996, the name of each member was created by combining the first name of a female sex symbol and the last name of a male serial killer-for example, Marilyn Monroe and Charles Manson. Vengeance Rising was an American Christian thrash metal band from Los Angeles, California. Fronted by vocalist Roger Martinez, they originally formed as Vengeance in 1987, but changed their name in 1989 to avoid conflict with another band from the Netherlands. Band members Larry Farkas, Doug Thieme, Roger Dale Martin, and Glen Mancaruso left following 'Once Dead' (1990) and formed the band Die Happy. Roger Martinez stayed on to record two more studio albums, but aside from him, Vengeance Rising's lineup changed for each subsequent album. While the group was a ground breaking Christian metal band, today Vengeance Rising is known for vocalist Martinez's turning from Christianity to Satanism to atheism.

The Easybeats were an Australian rock band which formed in Sydney in late 1964. They are best known for their 1966 hit single 'Friday On My Mind', which is regarded as the first Australian rock song to achieve international success; Rolling Stone described it as "the first international victory for Oz rock". One of the most popular and successful bands in the country, they were one of the few Australian bands of their time to foreground their original material; their first album 'Easy' (1965) was one of the earliest Australian rock albums featuring all original songs. In 2005, they were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame.
