Though several guitarists and drummers have played in Motorhead, most of their best-selling releases feature drummer Phil 'Philthy Animal' Taylor and guitarist 'Fast' Eddie Clarke. Lemmy died on 28 December 2015 from cardiac arrhythmia and congestive heart failure, after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. The day after his death, drummer Mikkey Dee and guitarist Phil Campbell both confirmed that Motorhead had disbanded.

It features hit singles (many not available on regular albums at the time) and other songs issued by the group between 1963 and 1966. The compilation served as a stopgap release to satisfy EMI's demand for product during the Christmas period, since The Beatles had only begun recording Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967), the follow-up to their Revolver (1966) album, late the previous month. It was the band's first official greatest hits collection, although The Beatles had no involvement in the album.

'Beatles For Sale' is the fourth studio album by The Beatles. The album marked a departure from the upbeat tone that had characterised The Beatles' previous work, partly due to the band's exhaustion after a series of tours that had established them as a worldwide phenomenon in 1964. It received favourable reviews in the UK musical press, where it held the number one spot for 11 of the 46 weeks that it spent in the Top 20.
