Basement Birds were an Australian indie rock group which formed in mid-2009 and comprised four singer-songwriters, Kevin Mitchell (of Jebediah, aka Bob Evans), Steve Parkin (ex-Vinyl, Autopilot, solo), Josh Pyke (ex-An Empty Flight, solo) and Kavyen Temperley (of Eskimo Joe). The members' mutual love of lush vocal harmonies and alt-country style was the basis for forming the project. Mitchell, Parkin and Temperley had each developed their careers in Perth. Influences cited by the band include Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and Wilco. Their sole album peaked at No. 12 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Mitchell indicated that there were no plans to resume the project as each member returned to their respective groups or solo careers.

Paul Dempsey

Paul Anthony Dempsey (born 25 May 1976) is an Australian musician. He is best known as the lead singer, guitarist and principal lyricist of rock group Something For Kate. Dempsey released his debut solo album, Everything Is True, in August 2009, which peaked at No. 5 on the ARIA Albums Chart. He has also produced and co-written albums for other artists, including Mosman Alder. Dempsey has experienced bouts of clinical depression and periods of writer's block, both of which have been publicised. Dempsey is married to Something For Kate's bass guitarist Stephanie Ashworth.

Vince Neil

Vincent Neil Wharton (born February 8, 1961) is an American musician. He is the lead vocalist of heavy metal band Motley Crue, which he fronted from their 1981 formation until his departure in 1992. Neil reunited with the band in 1996 and continued with them until the band's 2015 retirement, and again from the band's 2018 reunion onwards. Outside of Motley Crue, Neil has also released albums as a solo artist. Although his later life has seen media focus more on his poor live performances and off-stage controversy, Neil's visual aesthetic and distinctive singing voice are still considered synonymous with the American glam metal movement of the 1980s.

Under One Flag was a British record label from London, England, U.K. which catered to a heavy metal audience, particularly thrash metal. They were best known for re-releasing classic heavy metal albums, from the likes of Venom and Dark Angel, as well as some original releases from both bands and other heavy metal bands. Releases on vinyl by Under One Flag are sometimes still much desired collector's items.

Muscle Shoals Sound Studio

Muscle Shoals Sound Studio is an American recording studio in Sheffield, Alabama, formed in 1969 by four session musicians known as The Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section. They had left nearby FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals to create their own recording facility. They attracted noted artists from across the United States and Great Britain. Over the years, artists who recorded at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio included Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, Willie Nelson, Duane Allman, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Joe Cocker, Levon Helm, Paul Simon, Bob Seger, Rod Stewart, Cat Stevens, Cher, George Michael, and The Black Keys.

Wacken Open Air Festival

Wacken Open Air (abbreviated as W:O:A) is a heavy metal music festival, held annually since 1989 on the first weekend of August in the village of Wacken in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Almost all styles and subgenres of hard rock and metal are represented and hosted. It is now one of the largest heavy metal festivals in the world and one of the largest open-air festivals in Germany. Between 2011 and 2018, the number of attendees was around 85,000, 75,000 of whom were paying visitors.

Death was an American death metal band formed in Altamonte Springs, Florida, in 1984 under the name Mantas. The band is considered to be among the most influential bands in heavy metal music and a pioneering force in death metal. The band's 1987 debut album, 'Scream Bloody Gore', has been widely regarded as one of the first death metal records, alongside the first records from Possessed and Necrophagia. The group's style also progressed, from the raw sound on its first two albums to a more complex technical style later. The band disbanded after Schuldiner died of glioma and pneumonia in December 2001.
