Destruction is a German thrash metal band formed in 1982. They have been credited as one of 'The Big Four' of the German thrash metal scene, the others being Kreator, Sodom and Tankard. In addition to helping pioneer black metal, Destruction was part of the second wave of thrash metal in the mid-to-late 1980s, along with American bands Testament, Sacred Reich, Death Angel and Dark Angel.

The Cruel Sea are an Australian indie rock band from Sydney, New South Wales formed in late 1987. Originally an instrumental-only band, they became more popular when fronted by vocalist Tex Perkins (Beasts Of Bourbon) in addition to Jim Elliott on drums, Ken Gormly on bass guitar, Dan Rumour on guitar and James Cruickshank on guitar and keyboards. The band has won eight ARIA Music Awards including five in 1994 for work associated with the album The Honeymoon Is Over.

The band is stylistically black metal, with the exception of Anselmo's use of lower growling instead of the higher, raspier vocals commonly associated with the genre. Blabbermouth.net described the band's sound as black metal mixed with elements of grindcore, punk, and thrash.

Serj Tankian (born August 21, 1967) is an Armenian-American musician and activist. He is best known as the lead vocalist of the alternative metal band System Of A Down, which was formed in 1994. Tankian is regarded as one of the best vocalists in heavy metal, with praise given to his unusual delivery and his wide vocal range. In 2006, he was ranked No. 26 on the Hit Parader list of 'Top 100 Heavy Metal Vocalists'. A study conducted by VVN Music found that Tankian possesses a high and diverse vocal range of 4.2 octaves. In 2002, Tankian co-founded the non-profit political activism organization Axis Of Justice, alongside guitarist and fellow activist Tom Morello.

'Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia' is the fifth studio album by Dimmu Borgir. It is the first album to feature drummer Nick Barker, guitarist Galder, and ICS Vortex on bass. It is also the first album upon which the band used real orchestral instrumentation besides keyboards and the first of the three subsequent albums recorded in Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden, with producer Fredrik Nordstrom. The drum sound on this particular album strongly relies on using triggered samples, thus giving it a distinct drum machine sounding result. According to Nick Barker, the idea to this recording approach at that time was heavily inspired by his friend Hellhammer and him doing the same thing on Mayhem's album Grand Declaration Of War (2001). Specifically, the bass drum sound uses a direct sample from the beginning of '5 Minutes Alone' by Pantera off their 1994's Far Beyond Driven album.

Dimmu Borgir is a Norwegian symphonic black metal band from Jessheim, formed in 1993. The name is derived from Dimmuborgir, a volcanic formation in Iceland, the name of which means 'dark cities' in Icelandic, Faroese and Old Norse. The band has been through numerous lineup changes over the years; vocalist Shagrath and rhythm guitarist Silenoz are the only original members who still remain.
