Next To Die

Six Feet Under - Next To Die (2026)

[Death Metal]

Six Feet Under frontman Chris Barnes has a long history in the death metal scene, and no one can take away the fact that he was the original vocalist of Cannibal Corpse, potentially the most well know death metal band of all time. All that aside though, if you continue to play the game, you have to keep scoring goals - and any musician's legacy can be eroded if they keep making bad or mediocre music long enough. Barnes is proof of this, with each Six Feet Under album sounding just a little less engaging than the last, to where we are today with Next To Die. 'Approach Your Grave' starts the album out fine. It is slow, but suits Barnes' garbled vocal style well. It doesn't show much variation, and almost sounds like an early Obituary outtake. It isn't a particularly exciting song, and when the opener of most albums showcases what is to come, it isn't an inspiring portent. Track 2, the speedy 'Destroyed Remains' immediately proves itself to be a better song, but there is still nothing mind-blowing to be heard. 'Mister Blood And Guts' is next, and is the lyrics are so childish it sounds like it was written by a child, with the song title repeated over and over throughout. 'Mutilated Corpse In The Woods' is one of the best songs here, but is let down by Barnes' mumbled vocals. In fact, that can be said of the entire album. Although the music isn't breaking any new ground, it is competent old school death metal - but the vocals are just dull and uninspired, and anything unique about Barnes' vocal style back in his glory days is now long gone. There is a feeling here that he sees himself as a death metal 'elder statesman' that has the ability to lay down incredible vocals with little effort, but this album is evidence that the truth is far from it. He mumbles and grunts his way from song to song with little passion, and seemingly little interest. By 'Mind Hell' this is all starting to sound the same, but 'Naked And Dismembered' does a good job of trying to salvage something appealing from the uninspired mess it is part of. 'Grasped From Beyond' sounds the closest to early Six Feet Under the album has, and it is one of the better tracks, but like the rest of the album the muddy guitar tone sucks the life from the recording. The title track leads nicely into the final track, 'Ill Wishes' which although not heavy throughout, is easily the best track on the album. With clean moments it helps to snap the listener back to attention, something the other songs seldom do. It is actually a song begging itself worthy of a relisten, something the rest of the album doesn't tend to do. Even the whispered vocals is welcome break from the constant low growls that are throughout ever other song. If a single word could be used to describe the album, it would be 'dull'. There is nothing particularly bad or even incompetent here, but the whole thing feels like a band fulfilling a contractual obligation, like no one is enjoying themselves and they are doing this because they have to. The difference for the listener is, they aren't obligated to listen, so probably won't.

Rob Flynn

Robert Conrad Flynn (born Lawrence Matthew Cardine; July 19, 1967) is an American musician best known as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist for heavy metal band Machine Head, being the only member to feature on every album. Flynn formed the band along with Adam Duce, Logan Mader and Tony Costanza after leaving Bay Area thrash band Vio-lence.

Agonia Records

Agonia Records is a Polish independent record label dedicated to rock and metal music.

Harvest

Harvest Records was created by EMI in 1969 to market progressive rock music, and to compete with Philips' Vertigo and Decca's Deram labels, and the independent Island label. Harvest was initially under the direction of Malcolm Jones, and was distributed in North America by EMI's US affiliate, Capitol Records. They were the European licensee for the American label Blue Thumb Records from 1969 to 1971.

Virgin Records

Virgin Records is a British record label owned by Universal Music Group. They were originally founded as a British independent record label in 1972 by entrepreneurs Richard Branson, Simon Draper, Nik Powell, and musician Tom Newman. They grew to be a worldwide success over time, and by the time it was sold, it was regarded as a major label, alongside other large international independents such as A&M and Island Records. Virgin Records was sold to Thorn EMI in 1992. EMI would later be acquired by Universal Music Group (UMG) in 2012 with UMG creating the Virgin EMI Records division. The Virgin Records name continued to be used in Germany until 2025, when it was renamed Intercord Records.

Electric Lady Studios

Electric Lady Studios is a recording studio in Greenwich Village, New York City, U.S.A. It was commissioned by rock musician Jimi Hendrix in 1968 and designed by architect John Storyk and audio engineer Eddie Kramer. It was completed by 1970. Hendrix spent only ten weeks recording in Electric Lady before his death that year, but it quickly became a famed studio used by many top-selling recording artists from the 1970s onwards, including Led Zeppelin, Stevie Wonder, and David Bowie. At the turn of the 21st century, it served as a home for the innovative Soulquarians collective, but fell into financial hardship and disarray in the 2000s. Taken over and renovated by investor Keith Stoltz and studio manager Lee Foster, the studio returned to form as a popular location for mainstream artists of the 2010s, such as John Mayer, U2, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga and Zach Bryan.

Studio Fredman

Studio Fredman is a well-known recording studio in Gothenburg, Sweden, owned and operated by producer Fredrik Nordstrom. It is popular among Swedish metal bands, with artists such as At The Gates, Deathstars, Nightrage, Norwegian band Dimmu Borgir, Arch Enemy, Soilwork, Dark Tranquillity, In Flames, Zonaria, Machinae Supremacy, HammerFall, England's Bring Me The Horizon, A Breach Of Silence, and Opeth recording multiple releases in the studio. Originally, it was located in Gothenburg, but by 2005, it was relocated to Hyssna about 30 miles outside Gothenburg. The original facility was also co-owned by In Flames vocalist, Anders Friden. By the time of relocation, the original studio became In Flames-owned IF Studios. In 2008, Studio Fredman relocated once again in downtown Gothenburg at Vastra Frolunda/Hogsbo.

Sunset Sound Recorders / Sunset Sound

The Sunset Sound Recorders complex was created by Walt Disney's Director of Recording, Tutti Camarata, from a collection of old commercial and residential buildings. At the encouragement of Disney himself, Camarata began the project in 1958, starting with a former automotive repair garage whose sloping floor would tend to reduce unwanted sonic standing wave reflections. Soon, the audio for many of Disney's films was being recorded at the studio, including Bedknobs And Broomsticks, Mary Poppins, and 101 Dalmatians. Over 200 Gold records have been recorded at Sunset Sound, including hit albums for Elton John, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Toto, parts of Prince's Purple Rain, The Rolling Stones' Exile On Main St., Neil Young's After The Gold Rush, The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds, Linda Ronstadt's Don't Cry Now, parts of Guns n' Roses' Chinese Democracy and Janis Joplin's posthumously-released Pearl. In addition, The Doors recorded their first two albums, The Doors and Strange Days, at the studio. In 1981, Sunset Sound Recorders owner Camarata purchased The Sound Factory, another Los Angeles recording studio founded by Moonglow Records and later purchased and developed by David Hassinger.

'Dead To Rights' is the fourteenth studio album by Metal Church. It marks the debut of the band's new lineup, with vocalist Brian Allen, bassist Dave Ellefson and drummer Ken Mary replacing Marc Lopes, Steve Unger and Stet Howland, respectively.

Metal Church is an American heavy metal band formed in 1980. Originally based in San Francisco, California, they relocated to Aberdeen, Washington the following year and briefly called themselves Shrapnel. Led by guitarist and songwriter Kurdt Vanderhoof, the band is considered to be an integral part of the then-emerging Seattle heavy metal music scene of the 1980s. They achieved considerable popularity that decade, with two of their first three albums entering the Top 100 on the US Billboard 200 chart. The band's early lyrical topics such as conflict and paranoia later expanded into philosophical, political and social commentary.

'Good God / Baad Man' is the eleventh studio album by Corrosion Of Conformity. This was their first studio album in eight years, following No Cross No Crown (2018), marking the longest gap between studio albums in the band's career. It is their first release since their 1987 E.P. Technocracy to not be produced by John Custer. The band instead worked with producer Warren Riker, known for his work with Pepper Keenan's other band Down.

Corrosion Of Conformity is an American heavy metal band from Raleigh, North Carolina, formed in 1982. The band has undergone multiple lineup changes throughout its existence, with guitarist Woody Weatherman as the sole constant member. They started as a hardcore punk band but later moved towards a slower and blues-tinged heavy metal sound.

'El Mocambo 1977' is a live album by The Rolling Stones. It was recorded on 4 and 5 March 1977 at the El Mocambo club in Toronto, Canada. The club had a capacity of 300, and the gigs were secret, with winners of a contest invited to see Canadian rock band April Wine with support from a group called The Cockroaches, who were actually The Stones accompanied by keyboardist Billy Preston and percussionist Ollie Brown. The set promoted the band's then-most recent studio album Black And Blue (1976). Four songs recorded at the El Mocambo had been released in 1977 on the live compilation album Love You Live. It was the first release from The Rolling Stones since the August 2021 death of drummer Charlie Watts.

The Rolling Stones are an English rock band formed in London in 1962. Active across seven decades, they are one of the most popular and enduring bands of the rock era. In the early 1960s, the band pioneered the gritty, rhythmically driven sound that came to define hard rock. Their estimated record sales of 200 million make them one of the best-selling music artists of all time. They have won three Grammy Awards and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. They were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 1989 and the U.K. Music Hall of Fame in 2004. Billboard and Rolling Stone have ranked them as one of the greatest artists of all time.

'The Live Tapes Vol. 4, The 'Last Stand' Of The Sydney Entertainment Centre 2015' is a live album by Cold Chisel. It was recorded at the Sydney Entertainment Centre on 17 and 18 December 2015, which ended the group's One Night Stand tour of Australia. The band dubbed these performances 'The Last Stand' of the venue, prior to its demolition. Upon announcement of the two shows, over 20,000 tickets were sold in 10 minutes.

Cold Chisel are an Australian pub rock band, which formed in Adelaide in 1973. The group disbanded in late 1983 but subsequently reformed several times. Musicologist Ian McFarlane wrote that they became "one of Australia's best-loved groups" as well as "one of the best live bands", fusing "a combination of rockabilly, hard rock and rough-house soul'n'blues that was defiantly Australian in outlook." Cold Chisel's popularity is almost entirely confined to Australia and New Zealand, with their songs and musicianship highlighting working class life.

'Between Two Worlds' is the only album by I. The album was recorded at the Lydriket Studio and later mixed by Peter Tagtgren at the Abyss studio. The album showcases Abbath's straightforward metal style rather than his black metal style. The album displays a clear influence from classic metal bands, which although present in Abbath's primary band Immortal, is here the sole focus of the music.

I were a Norwegian black metal supergroup formed in 2003. The band featured Immortal frontman Abbath, Enslaved guitarist Ice Dale, Gorgoroth bassist TC King and former Immortal drummer Armagedda. I released their debut studio album in 2006 and performed their sole show at the Hole In The Sky Festival in Bergen, Norway that same year. Although work had begun on songs for a follow-up album, the band ceased to exist following the release of their debut album due to the members' commitment to their other bands.

The Stooges (originally billed as The Psychedelic Stooges, and also known as Iggy And The Stooges) were an American rock band formed in Ann Arbor, Michigan, U.S.A., in 1967 by singer Iggy Pop, guitarist Ron Asheton, drummer Scott Asheton, and bassist Dave Alexander. Initially playing a raw, primitive style of rock and roll, the band sold few records in their original incarnation and gained a reputation for their confrontational performances, which often involved acts of self-mutilation by Iggy Pop. They are widely regarded as a seminal proto-punk act. The band was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2010. In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked them 78th on their list of the 100 greatest artists of all time. In 2007, they were awarded the Mojo Lifetime Achievement Award at the Mojo Awards.

Judas Priest are an English heavy metal band formed in 1969. Rob Halford's operatic vocal style and the twin guitar sound of K.K. Downing and Glenn Tipton have been a major influence on many heavy metal bands. Judas Priest's image of leather, spikes, and other taboo articles of clothing was widely influential during the glam metal era of the 1980s. Despite an innovative and pioneering body of work in the latter half of the 1970s, the band struggled with indifferent record production and a lack of major commercial success until 1980, when the album 'British Steel' brought them notable mainstream attention. They have sold over 50 million albums and are frequently ranked as one of the greatest metal bands of all time.

Dan-Erland Swano (born 10 March 1973), also known as Dan 'The Man' Swano, is a Swedish musician and record producer who is currently the vocalist, guitarist, ex-bassist and ex-drummer for the band Nightingale, lately vocalist, keyboardist and drummer for the band Witherscape, as well as the owner of Unisound. He achieved fame as the vocalist and songwriter of progressive death metal band Edge Of Sanity. As a multi-instrumentalist he is regarded as influential in the underground melodic death metal, black metal, progressive metal, death metal, progressive rock, and power metal communities. He is known for his progressive rock-influenced songwriting style and his frequent use of both clean and growled vocals.

The new official bass player was Glenn Gyorffy but studio bass tracks are credited to Mike Duncan, in his first and only release, replacing Ian Dickson. It is also the first release with Ivan Hurd on guitar replacing Sebastian Marino. The title is a parody of the MTV Unplugged series of albums and performances.

Anvil is a Canadian heavy metal band formed in Toronto in 1978. The band have been cited as having influenced many notable heavy metal groups including Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, and Metallica. Anvil's antics on and off stage, the setbacks they suffered, and their determination to keep going have been compared to the fictional band Spinal Tap.

Over the next six years, Danzig and bassist Jerry Only were the group's main members through numerous personnel changes. During this period, they released several E.P.s and singles, and with Only's brother Doyle as guitarist, the albums Walk Among Us (1982) and Earth A.D./Wolfs Blood (1983), both considered touchstones of the early-1980s hardcore punk movement. The band has undergone many lineup changes over the years, with bassist Jerry Only being the group's only constant member.

'Balance' is the tenth studio album by Van Halen. The album is the last of the band's four studio releases to feature Sammy Hagar as the lead singer. It is also the final Van Halen album to feature bassist Michael Anthony in its entirety. It reached number 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 in February 1995 and reached triple platinum status on May 12, 2004, by selling more than three million copies in the U.S.A. Featuring a more serious tone than other Van Halen albums, Balance features a full integration of Eddie Van Halen's guitar riffs and keyboard work and contains three instrumentals. The record received mixed reviews from many music critics.

Van Halen was an American rock band formed in Pasadena, California, U.S.A. in 1973. Credited with restoring hard rock to the forefront of the music scene, Van Halen was known for their energetic live performances and the virtuosity of their guitarist, Eddie Van Halen. From 1974 to 1985, Van Halen consisted of Eddie Van Halen, his brother, drummer Alex Van Halen, lead vocalist David Lee Roth, and bassist Michael Anthony. In 1985, Roth left the band to embark on a solo career and was replaced by former Montrose lead vocalist Sammy Hagar. With Hagar, the group released four U.S. number-one, multi-platinum albums over the course of 11 years. Roth returned in 2006, and Anthony was replaced on bass guitar by Eddie's son, Wolfgang Van Halen. Eddie was diagnosed with cancer in 2001, and died of the disease on October 6, 2020. A month after his father's death, Wolfgang confirmed that Van Halen had disbanded. As of March 2019, Van Halen is 20th on the RIAA's list of best-selling artists in the United States; the band has sold 56 million albums in the U.S. and more than 80 million worldwide, making them one of the best-selling groups of all time.

'The Land Of Rape And Honey' is the third studio album by Ministry. This is the first Ministry album to include bassist Paul Barker and marks a departure from the band's previous two synthpop and EBM records. It incorporates heavy metal guitars and industrial music influences, and Al Jourgensen uses distorted vocals in his natural accent, rather than the faux British accent of previous albums. The resulting sound was influential in the industrial metal genre and is Jourgensen's favorite Ministry album. The album was certified gold by the RIAA in January 1996.

Ministry is an American industrial metal band founded in Chicago, Illinois, in 1981 by producer, singer, and instrumentalist Al Jourgensen. Originally a synth-pop outfit, Ministry evolved into one of the pioneers of industrial rock and industrial metal in the late 1980s. The band's lineup has changed frequently, leaving Jourgensen as the sole remaining original member.
