Deep Purple |
|||||||||||||
Deep Purple are an English rock band formed in London in 1967. They are considered to be among the pioneers of hard rock, but their musical approach has changed over the years. Originally formed as a psychedelic rock and progressive rock band, they shifted to a heavier sound in 1970. Deep Purple, together with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, have been referred to as the "unholy trinity of British hard rock and heavy metal in the early to mid-seventies". They have sold over 100 million albums worldwide. |

'In Rock' is the fourth studio album by Deep Purple. It was the first studio album recorded by the Mark II line-up of Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Jon Lord and Ian Paice. It was the band's breakthrough album in Europe and peaked at No. 4 in the U.K., remaining in the charts for over a year. By contrast, it underperformed in the U.S., where the band's Mark I albums had been more successful. The album has continued to attract critical praise as a key early example of the hard rock and heavy metal genres. |

'Made In Europe' is the third live album by Deep Purple, recorded on the final dates in April 1975 before Ritchie Blackmore left the group. It was released after the group had broken up. The name was chosen to capitalise on the same success of 1972's 'Made In Japan', but it didn't perform as well commercially. |

'Deepest Purple, The Very Best Of' is a compilation album by Deep Purple. It features the original hits of Deep Purple before their 1984 reunion. Aided by a TV advertising campaign it would become their third U.K. No. 1 album. It was at one point the longest album ever released as a single L.P. Being 60+ minutes, Warner Brothers Records lowered the volume considerably, as well as altering the EQ on all tracks to fit both sides equally. |

'Perfect Strangers' is the eleventh studio album by Deep Purple. It was the most successful album recorded by the re-formed 'Mark II' line-up. It was the first Deep Purple studio album in nine years, and the first with the Mk II line-up in eleven years, the last being 'Who Do We Think We Are' in 1973. Ritchie Blackmore and Roger Glover arrived from Rainbow, Ian Gillan from Black Sabbath, Jon Lord from Whitesnake, and Ian Paice from Gary Moore's backing band. The album was a commercial success, reaching #5 in the U.K. charts and #17 on the Billboard 200 in the U.S. It was only the second Deep Purple studio album to be certified platinum in the United States, following 1972's 'Machine Head'. The tour was so successful that the band had to book many additional dates to the U.S. arena tour, as tickets sold out very quickly. Their U.S. tour in 1985 out-grossed every artist that year except Bruce Springsteen. |
