Show No Mercy
[Album]

3 December 1983

'Show No Mercy' is the debut studio album by Slayer. The band self-financed their full-length debut, combining the savings of vocalist Tom Araya, who was employed as a respiratory therapist, and money borrowed from guitarist Kerry King's father. Touring extensively promoting the album, the band brought close friends and family members along the trip, who helped backstage with lighting and sound. Although the album was criticized for its poor production quality, it became Metal Blade's highest-selling release.

Haunting The Chapel
[E.P.]

4 August 1984

'Haunting The Chapel' is an E.P. released by Slayer. During the recording sessions drummer Dave Lombardo first had a double bass drum added to his kit. Although originally featuring three songs, the E.P. evidenced a marked evolution from the style of their previous album, 'Show No Mercy', and is considered the first demonstration of the band's "classic" style displayed on later albums.

16 November 1984

'Live Undead' is the first E.P. by Slayer. It was supposedly recorded live in New York City in front of a room of people, but it has been questioned by both critics and authors that the audience sound may or may not actually be faked.

Hell Awaits
[Album]

16 September 1985

'Hell Awaits' is the second studio album by Slayer. Musically, the album features the band's most progressive and diverse work compared to their previous releases, and according to Kerry King, he and Jeff Hanneman were very into band Mercyful Fate at the time, which then led to the longer and more progressive songs.

Reign In Blood

Slayer
Reign In Blood
[Album]

7 October 1986

'Reign In Blood' is the third studio album by Slayer. The album was the band's first collaboration with producer Rick Rubin, whose input helped the band's sound evolve. The release date of the album was delayed because of concerns regarding the lyrical subject matter of the opening track 'Angel Of Death', which refers to Josef Mengele and describes acts such as human experimentation that he committed at the Auschwitz concentration camp. The band's members stated that they did not condone Nazism and were merely interested in the subject. It was well received by both critics and fans, and is often mentioned among the greatest heavy metal albums ever recorded.

South Of Heaven

South Of Heaven
[Album]

5 July 1988

'South Of Heaven' is the fourth studio album by Slayer. Given the innovative speed metal pace of their previous album 'Reign In Blood', Slayer deliberately slowed the tempo on 'South Of Heaven' and used undistorted guitars and toned-down vocals. It reached number 57 on the Billboard 200.
