Rick RubinKnown For: -Various- |
Frederick Jay Rubin (born March 10, 1963) is an American record executive and record producer. He is a co-founder (alongside Russell Simmons) of Def Jam Recordings, founder of American Recordings, and former co-president of Columbia Records. Rubin helped popularize hip hop by producing records for acts such as the Beastie Boys, Geto Boys, Run-DMC, Public Enemy, and LL Cool J. He has also produced hit records for acts from a variety of other genres, predominantly heavy metal (Danzig, Metallica and Slayer), alternative rock (The Cult, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against The Machine, The Strokes and Weezer), hard rock (Audioslave and Aerosmith), nu-metal (Linkin Park, System Of A Down), and country (Johnny Cash, The Avett Brothers, and The Chicks). In 2007 he was called "the most important producer of the last 20 years" by MTV and was named on Time's list of the "100 Most Influential People In The World". |

Slayer
'Reign In Blood' is the third studio album by Slayer. The album was the band's first collaboration with producer Rick Rubin, whose input helped the band's sound evolve. The release date of the album was delayed because of concerns regarding the lyrical subject matter of the opening track 'Angel Of Death', which refers to Josef Mengele and describes acts such as human experimentation that he committed at the Auschwitz concentration camp. The band's members stated that they did not condone Nazism and were merely interested in the subject. It was well received by both critics and fans, and is often mentioned among the greatest heavy metal albums ever recorded.

Slayer
'South Of Heaven' is the fourth studio album by Slayer. Given the innovative speed metal pace of their previous album 'Reign In Blood', Slayer deliberately slowed the tempo on 'South Of Heaven' and used undistorted guitars and toned-down vocals. It reached number 57 on the Billboard 200.

System Of A Down
'Toxicity' is the second studio album by System Of A Down. Expanding on their 1998 eponymous debut album, Toxicity incorporates more melody, harmonies, and singing than the band's first album. Categorized primarily as alternative metal and nu metal, the album features elements of multiple genres, including folk, progressive rock, jazz, and Armenian and Greek music, including prominent use of instruments like the sitar, banjo, keyboards, and piano. It contains a wide array of political and non-political themes, such as mass incarceration, the CIA, the environment, police brutality, drug addiction, scientific reductionism, and groupies.

System Of A Down
'Steal This Album!' is the third studio album by System Of A Down. Produced by Rick Rubin and Daron Malakian, it peaked at number 15 on the US Billboard 200. In early 2002, medium-quality MP3s of the album were released on the internet under the name Toxicity II. The band issued a statement expressing disappointment that fans were hearing material that was unfinished, and they worked to release a completed, better quality version of the album, hence the album title.
