Paul Bruce Dickinson (born 7 August 1958) is an English singer, best known as the lead vocalist of the heavy metal band Iron Maiden. Dickinson has performed in the band across two stints, from 1981 to 1993 and from 1999 to the present day. He is known for his wide-ranging operatic vocal style and energetic stage presence. Dickinson began his career in music fronting small pub bands in the 1970s while attending school in Sheffield and university in London. In 1979, he joined British new wave heavy metal band Samson, with whom he gained some popularity under the stage name "Bruce Bruce" and performed on two studio records. He left Samson in 1981 to join Iron Maiden, replacing Paul Di'Anno, and debuted on their 1982 album 'The Number of the Beast'. During his first tenure in the band, they issued a series of U.S. and U.K. platinum and gold albums in the 1980s and early 1990s. |

'Head On' is the second studio album by Samson. The cover art features the band's masked drummer, Thunderstick. This is the first album with future Iron Maiden-frontman Bruce Dickinson on vocal duties. The instrumental 'Thunderburst' is credited as co-written by Steve Harris. The track is in fact an alternate version of 'The Ides Of March', an early Iron Maiden song written during the brief time in 1977 in which Thunderstick was in Iron Maiden. Iron Maiden released their own version on the Iron Maiden album 'Killers' the next year, though Steve Harris credited the song solely to himself, annoying the members of Samson.

Collaborating with future Iron Maiden guitarist Janick Gers, Dickinson began creating a solo album which was fundamentally different from his works with Iron Maiden, with a hard rock sound that is less progressive. The album yielded four Top 40 singles in the U.K.

Gers previously worked with singer Bruce Dickinson on his first solo album, 'Tattooed Millionaire'. Although it received generally mixed to negative reviews, the album peaked at No. 2 in the U.K. Albums Chart and contains the band's only U.K. Singles Chart No. 1, 'Bring Your Daughter... To The Slaughter'.
