Week Ending:
10 February 2024
News: Newsletters!
Emailing updates was very limiting, so I have moved online instead. Every week I'll send one of these Newsletters with any updates and changes. Some weeks will just be new music - some weeks will also have other news.
News: TCDP Name Change
The name 'The Core Discography Project (TCDP)' has run it's course - The first releases I put in were in 2019, so I think the 'project' is now over. I just load more up every week. You'll probably still see the title on some legacy things, by I'm now just calling it 'Core Discographies' instead, and you'll see that reflected across the site. You can access Core Discographies HERE.
News: Challenges
I know it has been a while, but Challenges are finally up and running. I have close to 10 years worth to convert, so the older ones will slowly appear over time. Any new weekly Challenges will be published immediately. Challenges can be found HERE.
News: More Artist / Release Details
You will probably notice that Artists and Releases now have information about who / what they are. Have a look at the Metallica page for one that has a some information added. From here on everything that gets loaded will has this information added. You can see the list at the bottom of this page has it.
News: New Theme
In my endeavour to chronicle the greatest music ever made (i.e. the stuff we like), I have added another Theme this week.
This week's Theme is Lightning To The Nations (1979-1982) - the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM).
You can probably see by now where this is going... We have had metal in the 80's and thrash metal, why not death metal, then black metal? The heavy music of the 70s? Oz rock in the 90s? Seattle grunge? Even down to regional stuff like death metal bands out of Florida. I have oodles of data to play with now, so can refine things any way I want.
You can access the new Theme HERE.
As always, previous Themes will grow in size every week, so be sure to check back in on them occasionally.

'Surf Nicaragua' is the first E.P. from Sacred Reich. It follows the band's debut album, 'Ignorance', released the previous year. The song 'Surf Nicaragua' contains a part from the song 'Wipe Out' as well as the drum part from the 'Hawaii 5-0' theme song. The live tracks were only supposed to be on the CD version, but due to a pressing error, they appeared on all formats.

-Various-
'Metal For Muthas' is a sampling of various better-known artists of the NWOBHM, primarily known for having some of the earliest recorded material by heavy metal legends Iron Maiden. It reached No. 12 on the British L.P. charts and became the basis of a tour by the artists who contributed songs to the compilation. Iron Maiden, who headlined the tour, became largely intertwined with the history of Sanctuary Records (whose namesake was the similarly named Iron Maiden track on the compilation).

-Various-
'Metal For Muthas, Volume II' sampled artists of the NWOBHM, but those featured were less notable compared to the first volume. It is deliberately reminiscent of the DIY ethic of the late 1970s and early 1980s British heavy metal underground scene.
