Music From Big Pink

The Band
Music From Big Pink

Classic Rock | Album | 1 July 1968

'Music From Big Pink' is the debut studio album by The Band. It employs a distinctive blend of country, rock, folk, classical, R&B, blues, and soul. The album's title refers to a house in West Saugerties, New York called 'Big Pink', which was shared by bassist/singer Rick Danko, pianist/singer Richard Manuel and organist Garth Hudson and in which the album's music was partly composed. The album itself was recorded in studios in New York and Los Angeles in 1968, and followed the band's stint backing of Bob Dylan on his 1966 tour (as The Hawks) and time spent together in upstate New York recording material that was officially released in 1975 as The Basement Tapes, also with Dylan. The cover artwork is a painting by Dylan.

'The Beatles' (also referred to colloquially as The White Album) is the ninth studio album and only double album by The Beatles. Featuring a plain white sleeve, the cover contains no graphics or text other than the band's name embossed This was intended as a direct contrast to the vivid cover artwork of the band's previous L.P., Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967). The Beatles is recognised for its fragmentary style and diverse range of genres, including folk, country rock, British blues, ska, music hall, proto-metal and the avant-garde. It has since been viewed by some critics as a postmodern work, as well as one of the greatest albums of all time. The album was the band's first L.P. release on their then-recently founded Apple Records after previous albums were released on Parlophone in the United Kingdom and Capitol Records in the United States.
