Ritchie BlackmoreKnown For: Hard Rock |
||
Richard Hugh Blackmore (born 14 April 1945) is an English guitarist. He was a founding member and the lead guitarist of Deep Purple, playing jam-style hard rock music that mixed guitar riffs and organ sounds. He is prolific in creating guitar riffs and has been known for playing both classically influenced and blues-based solos. After leaving Deep Purple in 1975, Blackmore formed the hard rock band Rainbow, which fused baroque music influences and elements of hard rock. Rainbow steadily moved to catchy pop-style mainstream rock. Rainbow broke up in 1984 with Blackmore re-joining Deep Purple until 1993. In 1997, he formed the traditional folk rock project Blackmore's Night along with his current wife Candice Night, shifting to vocalist-centred sounds. As a member of Deep Purple, Blackmore was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in April 2016. He is cited by publications such as Guitar World and Rolling Stone as one of the greatest and most influential guitar players of all time. |

'In Rock' is the fourth studio album by Deep Purple. It was the first studio album recorded by the Mark II line-up of Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Jon Lord and Ian Paice. It was the band's breakthrough album in Europe and peaked at No. 4 in the U.K., remaining in the charts for over a year. By contrast, it underperformed in the U.S., where the band's Mark I albums had been more successful. The album has continued to attract critical praise as a key early example of the hard rock and heavy metal genres.

'Perfect Strangers' is the eleventh studio album by Deep Purple. It was the most successful album recorded by the re-formed 'Mark II' line-up. It was the first Deep Purple studio album in nine years, and the first with the Mk II line-up in eleven years, the last being 'Who Do We Think We Are' in 1973. Ritchie Blackmore and Roger Glover arrived from Rainbow, Ian Gillan from Black Sabbath, Jon Lord from Whitesnake, and Ian Paice from Gary Moore's backing band. The album was a commercial success, reaching #5 in the U.K. charts and #17 on the Billboard 200 in the U.S. It was only the second Deep Purple studio album to be certified platinum in the United States, following 1972's 'Machine Head'. The tour was so successful that the band had to book many additional dates to the U.S. arena tour, as tickets sold out very quickly. Their U.S. tour in 1985 out-grossed every artist that year except Bruce Springsteen.
