News: New Theme!

I thought I would do something different with Themes this week.

Rather than just a bunch of albums from a period, I have instead created The Iron Maiden Family Tree (1975-Present).

Iron Maiden of course have a very long history (of almost 50 years!), and on the eve of the launch of the new Bruce Dickinson album 'The Mandrake Project' next month, I thought it would be fun to collect all the albums, E.P.s, and projects by members past and present in a single view. There is still lots to add, but I have made a good start so far. You'll also notice below many of the releases added to Core Discographies this week are Iron Maiden alumni...

MP3 FLAC		A.S.a.P. (Adrian Smith and Project) Silver And Gold [Album] 1 October 1989 Rock 'Silver And Gold' is the first and only album by Adrian Smith solo project A.S.a.P. It was a departure from the sound Adrian Smith helped create with Iron Maiden, with elements of a more progressive sound , and with keyboards more prominently featured. The album was a commercial failure, despite the promotional tour and two singles, and the band soon ceased to exist.

It features the work of guitarist Randy Rhoads, in whose honor the album was released. It was released five years after the death of Rhoads. It peaked at number 6 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart.
MP3 FLAC		Di'Anno Di'Anno [Album] ?? September 1984 Heavy Metal 'Di'Anno' is the debut studio album of the band of the same name. The lead singer Paul Di'Anno had been the frontman of Iron Maiden for three years, before being dismissed for his erratic behaviour. The band bearing his name and playing very commercial heavy rock was his first and short-lived solo project. Unlike his work with Iron Maiden, the album has a more Americanized sound similar to bands like Journey and Foreigner. The album reached only No. 105 on the U.K. Albums Chart and the band disbanded at the conclusion of the short tour supporting the release.

It peaked at number 60 on the U.K. Albums Chart in April 1981 where it stayed for two weeks, while 'Cheated', the lead single peaked at number 69 on the U.K. Singles Charts. It would be the band's only album of the 1980s.

It was vocalist Bruce Dickinson's final album with the band before joining Iron Maiden (who were coincidentally recording 'Killers', their last album with Paul Di'Anno, in the same studio at the same time as Samson).
MP3 FLAC		Samson Head On [Album] 27 June 1980 Heavy Metal 'Head On' is the second studio album by Samson. The cover art features the band's masked drummer, Thunderstick. This is the first album with future Iron Maiden-frontman Bruce Dickinson on vocal duties. The instrumental 'Thunderburst' is credited as co-written by Steve Harris. The track is in fact an alternate version of 'The Ides Of March', an early Iron Maiden song written during the brief time in 1977 in which Thunderstick was in Iron Maiden. Iron Maiden released their own version on the Iron Maiden album 'Killers' the next year, though Steve Harris credited the song solely to himself, annoying the members of Samson.

Although vocalist future Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson appears as a band member on the cover sheet, the album was completed before he joined the band, with guitarist Paul Samson on vocal duty.
MP3 FLAC		Deep Purple Made In Europe [Album] 1 October 1976 Classic Rock 'Made In Europe' is the third live album by Deep Purple, recorded on the final dates in April 1975 before Ritchie Blackmore left the group. It was released after the group had broken up. The name was chosen to capitalise on the same success of 1972's 'Made In Japan', but it didn't perform as well commercially.

It compiled his hit singles released in 1956 and 1957, and is widely believed to be the first greatest hits album in rock and roll history. It is the first of five RCA Victor Elvis' Golden/Gold Records compilations, the first four of which were issued during Presley's lifetime. The album peaked at number three on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart and was certified 6? platinum on August 17, 1999, by the Recording Industry Association of America.
